One man described a Christian man, or woman, not attending church, as a single piece of charcoal on a grill. “You may pour starter fluid on the coal in order to make it hot, but you can’t cook with it, and a single coal without the warmth of other coals eventually grows cold.”
His analogy is understandable since we normally separate the coals when we finish cooking in order to cool the fire. A fire cools as the heat of the connecting coals is severed, just as our “fire” cools when we lose our connection to Jesus Christ.
Some people believe that going to a church is unnecessary because GOD is omnipresent and He hears our prayers when we pray at home or at work.
True: When you pray at home and at work God hears you, but did you know that Jesus wants you to attend a Church? “That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 15:6.
Jesus said, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20
He also said, “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven." Matthew 10:32, 33. By attending church you are publicly confessing Him before men.
The Lord wants his children to attend a church so that they can be delighted, refreshed, comforted, instructed, edified, perfected, sanctified, and cleansed. So that our faith can grow as we gain more knowledge of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
One of the saddest passages in the Bible is when man first sinned and fell from the grace of God. Did you know that the Lord God walked in the garden of Eden in the cool of the day, and spoke with Adam and Eve?
When Adam and Eve ate from the fruit of the Garden of Eden, which God told them they should not eat, they were so ashamed that they tried to hide from his presence. God knew what they had done, and He knew where they were hiding. But rather than going and accusing them, He called Adam, and said unto him, “Where are you?” God wanted to know where Adam felt he stood in his relationship to Him. Adam had sinned, and God wanted to know what Adam was going to do about it.
The Lord gave Adam a chance to admit what he did, and express regret, but
instead Adam placed the blame elsewhere, and so did Eve. God knows we're not perfect, but He wants us to take responsibility for our actions. If we do something wrong, and do not take responsibility for it, then we will continue to do that which is wrong and our relationship to Him becomes more distant.
If you feel that your relationship with the Lord is not as it should be, and you want to make it right, what can you do?
First, you have to realize that God gave his only begotten Son for our salvation. He loves us, and wants us to be with Him. Confess before the Lord Jesus Christ that you have sinned against Him. Tell Him what your sins are. Tell Him that you will not do them again. Tell Him that you need Him in your life.
It sounds easy to be saved by Jesus Christ, because it is easy. All you have to do is ask Him to save you. Jesus is offering you eternal life. In John 17:3, Jesus said, “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
Only through Jesus can we obtain eternal life, “…There is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:10-12. When Jesus offers you eternal life, He offers you the opportunity to know God. He wants you to experience the blessing of a personal relationship with Him. †
We, at the West Side Full Gospel Church, would like your fire in the Lord Jesus Christ to burn strong. We want to take this opportunity to invite you to worship with us so that we can share in the warmth of our Lord.
